In the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area — where land meets sea through some of the world’s most ambitious infrastructure projects — the Huangmaohai Sea Bridge now stands as a landmark of connectivity and innovation. Spanning 31 kilometers across the Huangmao sea between Zhuhai and Jiangmen, this engineering feat holds the record for the world’s longest-span three-tower cable-stayed highway bridge. We were commissioned to design and deliver the bridge’s comprehensive floodlighting system, ensuring that this vital transport link not only connects cities but also leaves a lasting visual impression after dark. Our lighting concept, “Dynamic Harmony,” blends the bridge’s structural strength with the fluid character of its coastal environment. The towers and cables are treated as luminous sails across the bay, while the deck and approach roads are illuminated with a warm, welcoming tone to guide travelers home.
Technical Features
The three iconic towers are bathed in tunable white upward grazing light (3000K–5000K), accentuating their cable‑stayed form, while over 1,200 LED cable lights trace the suspension lines with subtle colour gradients that evoke the gentle waves below. Linear edge lighting along the 31‑km span provides uniform baseline visibility across the bridge, while smart zoning allows dynamic adjustment for traffic flow and emergency signaling.
The system is DMX512‑controlled, featuring 10 preset scenes (including peak‑hour visibility, festive modes, and low‑energy standby), synchronized with weather and traffic sensors for real‑time adaptation. High‑efficacy optics deliver 200–300 lx average illuminance with zero light pollution to protect the bay’s ecosystem. All fixtures are surge‑protected and corrosion‑resistant, tested to withstand Category 12 typhoons, ensuring 99.9% uptime.
Construction
Over 5,000 high‑power, IP67‑rated LED luminaires were installed and effect‑tuned ahead of schedule, with the entire system designed and tested to meet stringent marine environment and seismic requirements in the humid Pearl River Delta climate, while minimizing energy consumption. Our on‑site installation protocols were equally rigorous — covering everything from bolt embedment depth to the number of insulating tape wraps around cable connections — ensuring every detail met our quality standards.
