In Shenzhen’s Longhua District, where urban growth meets natural landscape, the Longhua District Library, Community Arts Center, and Grand Theater – collectively known as the “Three Venues” – have emerged as a new cultural hub. Completed in 2023, the 185,000㎡ complex sits along the shores of Luhu Lake, integrating architecture, public space, and community life. Hongyu Lighting was commissioned to deliver the lighting for this municipal landmark, transforming its edges and transitional spaces into a coherent nighttime experience.
Lighting Design
The lighting design is guided by a concept of “serene convergence,” responding to the site’s integration of water, landscape, and built form, as well as capturing the essence of traditional Chinese culture, translating its understated elegance into a modern lighting language. Along the lakefront, 3000K linear pathway lights and submerged LED uplights trace the shared promenade, creating a reflective effect on the water that connects the three venues without overpowering the natural setting. Between the buildings, vertical grazing on curtain walls and warm 2800K lighting in communal areas support a range of activities—from lectures and rehearsals to quiet reading in the library, where the tone shifts to a cooler 4000K for concentration. At roof level, low‑intensity crown lighting is synchronized with lunar cycles to minimize light spill, preserving the surrounding mountain views while maintaining a subtle presence on the skyline.

- Over 3,500 energy-efficient LED fixtures, including RGB-capable linear washers and smart bollards, delivering 100–180 lx for immersive yet glare-free environments.
- DMX512-integrated system with 12 adaptive scenes (performance peaks, quiet reading hours, eco-night mode), tied to ambient sensors and occupancy data for 45% energy reduction in Shenzhen’s variable subtropical weather.
- High-IP-rated, anti-corrosion optics (>95 CRI) withstand coastal humidity, with full recyclability supporting the project’s green urban agenda and remote diagnostics for effortless maintenance.
- Seamless integration with the site’s 2-level subterranean elements, ensuring safe, intuitive navigation for the 399-seat small theater crowds or international conference attendees.
As dusk settles over Luhu, the Longhua Triad glows not as isolated venues but as a living cultural organism—fostering community arts, knowledge-sharing, and grand performances in a space that’s as restorative as it is inspiring.
